The recumbent zinc stags near the north gate of Tower Grove Park were created by a German sculptor, Daniel Christian Rauch. Acquired by Mr. Henry Shaw in the late 19th century for the permanent adornment of the park the stags were severely damaged by falling tree branches during a thunder storm a century later.
